Guitars are Cheep
DJ: i got to play my buddy's gibson es-335 yesterday.
what the es-335 is to blues guitars is what the stradivaruis is to violins (sorry if i misspelled that).
Me: nice
DJ: now i totally want an es.
but they start around $2000...
Me: What a surprise
DJ: bugger.
Me: wow
that's cheep
only 2000?
ok, they start there, but seriously
DJ: sorry, they start around $4000.
http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/ES/Gibson-Custom/ES-335-Dot-Plain-Gloss.aspx
Me: I need to stop comparing guitar prices to violin prices...
DJ: ahahahaha
Me: that's a nice instrument.
DJ: heres a '59 dot reissue es-335. bit pricier.
http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/ES/Gibson-Custom/1959-ES-335-Dot-Reissue.aspx
Me: Just to compare violin prices, serious performance students will usually have about a $15,000 violin, but sometimes if they're thinking of the future may spend $60,000-100,000. After they get a job, if it's a major orchestra, they'll usually be looking at $30,000 minimum to about $100,000 or twice that, if they can afford it
Me: And that's just the violin alone
not including the bow which can be another easy $10,000
DJ: ...
Me: plus the $500-$1000case
the $40 rosin, the $40 shoulder rest,
averages, of course.
oh, and the strings
DJ: ...
Me: my decent set of strings is about $80. They don't get too bad. prolly $120 at the top
DJ: ill never complain about the cost of a guitar again.
Me: My work here is done.

And Now I know.
I figured out why it's stupid to get romantically involved with someone you know you will never see again. You and the other party will not speak for months at a time, and when you do speak, it will be an accusation similar to "So you won't talk to me now?" I'm sorry for not talking to you, but I thought it was you not talking to me. Please excuse my misunderstanding.
On a separate note, I've been watching a lot of Castle recently, and reading Castle's books. (Yay for ghost writers!!) The T.V. show is amazing, and the lead character Kate Bekket has become one of my role-models. Yes, I know she's a fictional character. However, that fictional character is a strong, independent, sarcastic, quick-witted, takes-no-b.s. kinda girl, and I look up to that.
Nancy is playing La Folia. Actually, playing is too generous a word. She's butchering some rythems, and puts absolutely no emotion into her playing, and cuts the notes WWAAYY too short. She should be playing fiddle music, not classical. I don't think Nancy understands the whole "emotion in music" thing. She scoffs at the idea of music being moving, or putting your soul into what you're playing. Not good for classical, and ESPECIALLY not good for La Folia. It hurts to listen.\
Where are my headphones?
Oh yea, they're missing. They were missing for a good 2 weeks, then I found them, and not one hour later, were missing again. >.<
UPDATE: Just did a quick search. Found my headphones exactly where I left them. Just goes to show you can find anything when you have a strong enough motive.
My sister is now playing Toontown. We used to play about 5-ish years ago, so playing again is bringing back a whole lot of nostalgia. Aahhhhh, the music. She keeps using the WASD keys to move, and pressing the SHIFT button to sprint. Too much Skyrim.

Opera
This morning was filled with the arias and melodies which make up Gianni Schicchi and Suor Angelica.
They are two of Puccini's operas. And I have two weeks to master both of them. Here are the synopsis of both, as well as the performance
Gianni Schicchi synopsis Gianni Schicchi performance
Suor Angelica synopsis Suor Angelica performance
Before you ask, I can not sing opera. I can sing songs in tune, but opera is waaaay beyond my capabilities. I'll be playing the first violin part, which is challenging in itself. So, off I go into the music room to practice until my fingers bleed.

Thanksgiving
Happy thanksgiving to all you who read this!
it's been more than a month since my last post.
that's rather depressing, don't you think?
that means an update is long overdue
I switched majors from exercise science to psychology.
I'm still going to do physical therapy, but that is a doctorate program. I'm now a psyche major because exercise science has chemistry and physics every semester. I hate math.
Also, I bombed an audition. According to my violinist friend up there, I sounded good, but that does very little to help the audition outcome.
On a totally unrelated note: I went to an optometrist yesterday. Apparently I have a slight astigmatism. That would explain why I can't read the street names. Anyway, my glasses will arrive in about a week.

Life and Things
Life in a small town is fun.
It's true that there are no huge malls,
Not a whole bunch of places to go,
but the small town is nice.
Some of my friends and I had a Dr. Who Marathon today. =D
It wasn't that long of a marathon. Only a couple hours.
four episodes worth.
but it was still a lot of fun.
And now I want to knit the Dr.'s scarf.
But school is preventing me.
I have a biology test on friday, and on wednesday there is a playing test.
A test for orchestra.
Sure, the conductor needs some way to provide grades to make the college happy, but still.
It's a pain.
And it requires practice.
I haven't practiced for a while. It's horrible.
I want tea.
Also, I am going to switch my major to Athletic Training.
It requires a few extra classes because of the Physical Therapy, but I still want to.
I also want to study abroad for a while.
France.
Or England, if I haven't learned french well enough.
On an unrelated note: I really like my hair when it's straightened.
It looks sexy.
Another unrelated note: I'm going to buy the Orange Box soon. But for that, I'd need a source of income. I hate not teaching lessons. It's not fun at all.
Also, I miss PSG. A lot.
The orchestra up here does not have the high standards that PSG has.
I would LOVE to play Shostakovitch's 5th symphony, or Holst's The Planets, but this orchestra doesn't listen to each other enough to do that. Also, the conductor would screw up the interpretation. Like he did with Beethoven's 5th. There was no pause between the second and third measure of the first movement. That kills the mood. Kills it dead.
I still want tea.
OH! After all that, now I remember the main reason for this post.
If you want to get me a gift for any occasion, here are some ideas:
perfumes and lotions
office supplies
makeup
notebooks (which could go under the office supplies category, but I love notebooks so much <3)
hair-related things. Bobbypins and hairties are always wanted
money. (to pay for the various PC games I want xD)
That list was brought about because of a conversation that my roommate and I had. This is a list that would make both of us happy.
So yea.
Guess I should start studying. Or practicing.

74 degrees of Blue and Yellow
Well, 18 years have passed, and I am now residing in the hormone-infested, drug-infused "higher learning" boarding school that is Northern Arizona University.
Classes start on Monday.
And I need to talk to someone for my chair test... ><

Three More Days
Three days to pack all my belongings
Three days to perfect Beethoven's 5th symphony
Three days to say goodbye
Three days to perfect Beethoven's 5th symphony
Three days to say goodbye
That sounds so sad!

Pretend this is a witty title
Hithere
well, my laptop can run World of Warcraft, Portal, and Portal2.
I'm kinda glad that I've played the symphony before.
Not that I'm playing the same part. NOOO, we can't have that.
How dare they assign 1st violin to a freshman?
Well, with the insane amount of music majors there are, I understand their thoughts.
But you'd think that the audition everyone gave would be enough to place everyone in their perspective section. Not that it's a problem for the other string instruments, but we violinists would appreciate that little bit of extra effort. The competition which makes up the majority of the violin world is fierce and harsh. In order to survive, you have to be willing to dedicate your life, heart, soul, and most of your time. Life is so you can attend the various lessons, practices and gigs. Time is for practicing. And practicing. And practicing. Then practicing some more, because those eight hours wasn't quite enough. Heart and Soul is required to make what you just practiced sound like a human is playing it, and not a robot attached to a metronome. There is no beauty in music without feeling.

Because you needed to know that.
Also, for those of you who care, it can pull decent graphics.
huzzah for dedicated graphics cards!
Yesterday I spent all day with Beethoven.
I practiced his 5th symphony so much, that I can sing it in my sleep.
Because I couldn't do that before. /SARCASM

Class
Thus, the writing class begins.
We're learning APA style.
I am not a fan. MLA makes more sense.
APA uses up more words in the wordcount. Which is good.
That means I don't have to write as many words in the actual paper. ^.^
Pagecount>wordcount. Always.
Also, the automatic bulletpointing on Microsoft Word is annoying.
I haven't been practicing lately. It's horrible. I miss my violin.
Poor Antonio. Yes, I named my violin Antonio.
I find it a fitting name for a 103yearold violin.
Oh, hey, we get to watch a movie today.Or whatever you call a 27min. video
Why are you still reading this? There's nothing interesting in here.
Well, perhaps it's interesting, but I don't see how.
Says the person writing the meandering words.
Meh. We actually have to analyze the 27min video.
That's no fun.
